At quantum we undertake a very wide range of hardening, tempering, brazing and finishing processes. Our hallmark is high quality work and completion on time. We specialise particularly in small batch production and we are always available to discuss any aspect of the job with our customers. Members of our staff are qualified metallurgists or trained in metallurgy, so our customers deal with skilled people who really understand their needs.

We have effective quality control systems which include inspection at every stage of production to ensure the highest standards. And Quantum customers frequently expect a rapid service. Urgent jobs receive immediate attention and we can usually offer a twenty-four to forty-eight hour turn around.

A particular advantage for Quantum customers is that all the processes offered, including finishing, are done on one site. We can therefore undertake all the processes which a job, or each part of it, demands.

Our heat treatment methods ensure that there is minimal distortion results from the hardening and tempering process, and that the final surface finish is clean. We also have a large tank for chemi-blacking. Components are handled with care so that their appearance on completion is perfect and there is no damage to the delicate parts. Chemi-blacking is done every day and we offer a while-you-wait service on smaller jobs. The other finishing processes which we offer include phosphating, parco lubrite, and shot blasting to clean components.

As well as carrying out processes like nitriding and tufftriding, we heat treat high speed steels and special materials such as ferro-tic, aluminium, copper beryllium, radio-metal and mumetal.

The quality of our work, and the rapid turn-around we offer, means that we have several motor racing manufacturers amongst our customers. Components in racing cars have to withstand extreme physical conditions and we are one of the very few companies in the region which can offer the quality demanded.

We have facilities for vacuum hardening and induction. Our Vacuum furnaces are in operation all the time to produce hardened and tempered bright steel components with minimal distortion. Brazing of fluxed joints can also be carried out using vacuum furnaces.

Our induction units can be used to apply heat to selected parts of a component-gear teeth for example – through purpose-made coils utilising high frequency electromagnetic currents. This localised heating minimises the overall distortion of the component.

There are excellent facilities at Quantum for case hardening. Our gas atmospheric furnaces and cyanide salt baths give the highest quality wear-resistance to surfaces and components. We have salt bath with capacities for martempering and austempering sizeable components. Martempering reduces the risk of cracking and distortion which can result from large cut-outs and sharp corners with a slow two-stage quenching process – in the salt bath and in air. Austempering is ideal for medium or high carbon steel components with thin sections. We austemper a wide range of products including springs and clips. And to complete the Quantum range of services, our forced air and muffle furnaces mean that we can offer stress relieving and annealing.

We put our Quantum theory into practice by offering customers quality, precision, and delivery on time. If that is what you want, phone us now!
